Why hearing the words “your position is being eliminated” can actually be a great thing

Losing  a job or just the idea of losing your job can be hard. Immediately you start thinking – “What am I going to do? How am I going to support my family? How am I going to pay my bills? I don’t want to have to start all over again (or take a step back).”

Hearing the words “your position is being eliminated effective (insert date)” can seem like the worst news ever. I know. I’ve heard them too.

But here’s what I’ve learned. Hearing those words can be some of the best news for you. Why? Because so often we live our lives on repeat. We stay in with our comfort zone with no motivation to step outside of it. We do what we do every day and don’t question whether or not we’re truly living our life’s purpose or maximizing our potential. Are we even happy? We have our blinders on. We get complacent. We settle. We get used to easy. We don’t evolve. And we certainly don’t step into who we’re really meant to be.

Think about this: What if I told you that the worst thing that could happen to you if you hear those words is actually only an emotion? What if the worst that could happen is already happening by the thoughts you are choosing to think about when you think about these words? (Really think about that.) Yet, for many of my clients, they feel as though the world is going to end by hearing these words. And before you know it, the thoughts and stories they are creating in their minds start to prove them right.

But here’s the good news: you have the ability to navigate all of this with full confidence and clarity whether you’ve heard these words or anticipate hearing these words.

In my program, Figure Out What’s Next, we do a deep-dive into all of this. I help you figure out what’s next in your career and develop the confidence and clarity you need to navigate it all. I will help you identify and break any patterns that are not serving you. I will help you create a life and career on purpose instead of being at the affect of others or your current job. I will work with you to develop a higher level of self-awareness so you can move forward and achieve the goals you really want in your career and life.
