How To Achieve More In Your Life And Career Today

Let me let you in on some information that could change your life.

As human beings, we all have emotions.

Some positive.
Some negative.

In fact, for most of us, half of our lives will be positive, wonderful, full of joy, etc….(insert whatever positive emotions resonate for you).

The other half will suck.

And since I’m a life coach, some of you reading this might be thinking I’m going to just tell you to “think positive thoughts”.

I won’t.

Here’s why.

Our brains are not wired that way.
They are wired to look for danger and keep us alive.
They are still operating from this primal need to keep us safe.
We are still living in the cave.

And because of that, it’s impossible to extinguish all negative emotions from our lives.

In fact, it’s this contrast of negative and positive emotions that help us be conscious of and experience the greatness of life when we’re in a positive space versus when we are in a negative space.

So having positive and negative emotions is normal and part of the human experience.

We all need to experience both.

But where I see so many of us getting off track stems from us operating on “autopilot”.

Here’s why that’s important.

When you’re operating on autopilot (which, by the way, research shows that 40% of our day is spent in autopilot mode) you are unconscious of what’s really happening and instead take action out of habits.

Why this is a problem is because for most of us, our habits are not serving us.

Take a look at your morning routine.
Take a look at how you’re stuck in your life.
Take a look at your unhealthy habits.
Take a look at the problems you’re having at work.
Take a look at the strained relationships in your life.

By doing these habits daily (40% of our time to be exact) we go through life going through the same old motions. And we become stuck in patterns that don’t serve us.

We’re not improving ourselves.
We’re definitely not living to our potential.
And we’re not being the best version of ourselves.

So what do we do then?

  1. Become conscious of your thoughts. Since our thoughts trigger every emotion we have, we need to know what we are choosing to think and whether or not that is serving us.
  2. Once we know what belief system or thought is driving that emotion, decide whether or not you want to keep it. Some beliefs or thoughts that drive negative emotion are not bad. It’s the ones that are keeping you small in your life and career that we need to take a closer look at.
  3. Take action. This will help you feel more in control which will ultimately help you cultivate the emotions you need that will drive the outcomes you want.
